Global Religion
Research Initiative
Funding the social scientific
study of global religion

The Global Religion Research Initiative was funded by Templeton Religion Trust to fund research and curriculum grants and writing fellowship programs intended to significantly advance the social scientific study of religions around the globe, based on the premise that as religion persists in significance in the contemporary, globalizing world, the social sciences in North America need much better to understand the diversity of religions and to integrate that enhanced understanding into research, theory, and teaching.

We are proud to have funded 70 research grants, 38 writing fellowships, and 40 curriculum development projects. The program ended in 2021, but you can learn more about those projects from the Awards, Syllabi, and Summaries tabs on this page.
